3 More Things to Consider When Shopping for a Vehicle Tracking System SEOadmin | Nov 11, 2013 4:50:00 AM

There are many things to keep in mind while shopping for the right GPS vehicle tracking system

Recently I wrote about things to consider when shopping for a vehicle tracking system. However, I’ve realized now that I left out three very important list items. When shopping for a vehicle tracking system, you should also consider the following:

Does the system you’re looking at require a contract?

Many companies show fantastic prices on the front page of their website, but upon further investigation you find out that you’re required to sign a contract in order to get that pricing. These contracts can range from 1 year to 3 years and you’re stuck with that service for that time period whether or not you’re happy with their system.

Does the supplier you’re reviewing lock the devices you purchase?

I don’t know about you, but when I purchase something, I feel like I should be able to do whatever I want to do with that thing. Unfortunately, not all suppliers of vehicle tracking service and GPS tracking devices agree. Some suppliers will lock the device when programming the unit so that your unit, the one that you spent company dollars on, cannot be used on another vehicle tracking service supplier’s network. Some of these suppliers do not even tell you that they do it so you can find out you have useless devices when you try to take your business elsewhere.

Are they quoting you a 3G device?

Many cellular carriers are beginning to turn down their 2G networks, meaning that any device that functions on the 2G network will no longer work and need to be replaced. Depending on the carrier and where you operate, that could be as early as 2014. Yet some suppliers are still pushing 2G devices on their unknowing customers.

When you invest in a vehicle tracking system or GPS tracking devices, do you want to feel locked in by contracts and devices that can’t be used on other networks? Do you want to spend hundreds of dollars on a device only to find out that it will need to be replaced shortly? Or do you want a service that will work to keep you happy and earn your business over and over again? I know which one I’d choose.
